Scanning apparatus
U.S. Patent Number: 5390008
Abstract: An optical apparatus having an exposure/scanning unit, a pair of guide rails, and a pair of support shafts. The exposure/scanning unit moves to scan an original placed on an original table. The guide rails guide the exposure/scanning unit. The support shafts are connected to ends of the exposure/scanning unit which are spaced apart in a direction at right angles to a direction in which the exposure/scanning unit moves. The shafts extend in the direction in which the exposure/scanning unit moves, and each shaft has contact members at its ends. The contact members extend from the exposure/scanning unit, contacting the guide rails and supporting the exposure/scanning unit. The length S (mm) of the support shafts, a distance l (mm) between the center of gravity of the exposure/scanning unit and a point on the exposure/scanning unit where the exposure/scanning unit is driven by an endless belt, the acceleration a (mm/sec.sup.2) of the endless belt and the acceleration of gravity g (mm/sec.sup.2) satisfy the following relationship: S.gtoreq.4 al/g.
