Copolymers of polyorganosiloxane, polyisobutylene, and alkyl acrylates or methacrylates

Abstract: Method of making copolymers of (i) an acrylic or methacrylic-functional polyisobutylene macromonomer, (ii) a polydiorganosiloxane macromonomer, and optionally (iii) a radical polymerizable monomer such as an alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate. The copolymers are prepared by copolymerizing the monomers in a miniemulsion using a free radical initiator at high temperature. In the method, the monomers are mixed with a surfactant(s) and optionally a cosurfactant(s), and subjected to high shear.
